If you had the opportunity to Climb Mt. Everest-would you?
Everest: The Contest by Gordon Korman is the story of Dominic, a boy of thirteen, who wins a contest sponsored by an energy drink company to attend a “boot camp" where four child finalists will be chosen to climb Mt. Everest. Dominic doesn't expect to win but he wants to learn how to become a better climber like his brother Chris. He and his brother have always been climbers, it runs in their blood. Pushed to their physical and emotional limit, which four will be chosen and will they have what it takes to conquer Mt. Everest?
I really thought that this book was amazing because it is an action-packed story including near death experiences. There were also a lot butterfly moments in the novel, where I as a reader was anxious to find out who would be chosen as the final four.
Dominic was my favourite character because he is the best climber and he demonstrates the kind of climbing partner I would want to have. He's kind, considerate, strong, a critical thinker and team player. I think people should read Everest: The Contest because you can learn a lot about climbing, friendship, leadership and team work. I recommend this book to people who like action and a lot of suspense. This is the first novel in a trilogy.
